From China to Europe: Leonidas on Connecting Cultures with Timekettle

Editor's Note: Every meaningful connection starts with understanding. For Leonidas, who works with international communities and creates content inspired by people and their stories, language barriers have often been part of the journey. Through his experiences with the T1 mini and W4, he has discovered how translation technology can make cross-language conversations easier and more natural.

Connecting People Across Languages and Cultures

Timekettle: Your work seems to bring you into contact with people from all kinds of backgrounds. Tell us a little about your daily life and the role language plays in it.

Leonidas: I work for an organization that runs Erasmus+ and other European programs, where we host participants from all over the world. I communicate with people from many different countries and language backgrounds on a regular basis. English is our main working language, but not everyone speaks it fluently, so language barriers can sometimes make communication more difficult.

As a filmmaker and content creator, I also meet people from different countries. When I want to hear their stories or interview them, language differences can make the conversation less natural and limit spontaneous interaction.

Timekettle: That sounds like a lot of opportunities to connect with people, but also plenty of moments when communication gets complicated. What was that like before you started using a dedicated translation device?

Leonidas: Before I started using the T1 mini, I mainly relied on Google Translate or translation apps on my phone. They were helpful, but they often interrupted the flow of conversation, especially during group activities or longer discussions.

One situation I clearly remember was during an Erasmus+ project, when a participant spoke very little English—he was speaking only Spanish, his native language. We had to stop several times to translate messages on our phones, which made the conversation slow and less natural.

It worked in the end, but it showed me how much easier communication could be with a dedicated real-time translation device.

Discovering a New Way to Communicate in China

Timekettle: That experience really shows how language barriers can interrupt even simple conversations. You also mentioned using the T1 mini during your trip to China. We'd love to hear more about that experience. What was it like communicating with local people for the first time?

Leonidas: My first experience with the T1 mini was during my trip to China, where I visited Guangzhou and Chongqing. Since I didn't speak Chinese, everyday situations like asking for information, communicating with local people, or understanding conversations could have been challenging.

The T1 mini helped make these interactions much easier, especially with its real-time translation and accuracy. It allowed me to communicate more naturally and enjoy the experience without constantly worrying about the language barrier.

When I first used it, I was impressed by how quickly it translated real conversations. It made communicating with local people much easier and more natural.

Timekettle: Traveling somewhere where you don't speak the local language can be intimidating. What features made the biggest difference for you during that trip?

Leonidas: The features that matter most to me are translation accuracy, real-time conversation translation, offline translation for traveling, wide language coverage, and portability. Having a reliable and accurate translation is essential because it helps create smoother and more meaningful communication.

During my trip to China, especially in Guangzhou and Chongqing, offline translation was very useful in situations where internet access was not always available. It gave me more confidence when communicating with local people and handling everyday situations.

For Leonidas, the T1 mini proved to be a practical travel companion. Its real-time and offline translation features helped him communicate with local people more confidently, even in situations where internet access wasn't always available.

From Travel to Everyday Conversations with W4

Timekettle: Your experience with the T1 mini started with travel, but you've also been using our W4 Translation Earbuds for several months. How has your experience with the two devices been different?

Leonidas: At the moment, I use the W4 translation earbuds more often because they're more convenient for everyday conversations and meetings. I used the T1 mini translator for about 10 months, and I've been using the W4 earbuds for about four months. Both devices have been useful, but the W4 fits better into my daily routine.

Timekettle: Given how much time you spend working with international participants, I can see why hands-free communication would be useful. Where do you find yourself using W4 most often?

Leonidas: I use the W4 Translation Earbuds mainly during Erasmus+ projects and other European programs, where I interact daily with participants from different countries and language backgrounds.

They are especially useful during meetings, workshops, social activities, and informal conversations. Their portability, voice capture, and noise reduction are very helpful, especially in environments with many people and background noise.

The real-time translation features of the W4 helped make conversations smoother during meetings, workshops, and social activities with participants from different countries. Being able to communicate more naturally without constantly using my phone improved the overall experience.

Leonidas: As a filmmaker, I also use them when creating content and capturing stories from people with different cultural backgrounds, helping conversations feel more natural and spontaneous.

For Leonidas, the value of W4 goes beyond everyday meetings and workshops. As a filmmaker and content creator, he also finds it useful when connecting with people from different cultural backgrounds, helping conversations feel more natural and spontaneous without constantly relying on his phone.

What Makes Communication Feel More Natural?

Timekettle: After using both products in real-life situations, what's been the most impressive part of the experience? And what would you like to see improved in the future?

Leonidas: What impressed me the most about Timekettle devices is how they make communication feel more natural. The real-time translation experience, especially during conversations with people from different language backgrounds, is the feature that stands out the most for me.

I also appreciate the compact design and the way the devices are created for real-life situations, especially during travels and international activities.

After using the T1 mini and W4 for a long period, I believe future products could continue improving translation accuracy in more complex conversations, especially in environments with noise or multiple people speaking. For the T1 mini specifically, I would appreciate a slightly larger screen, as it would make the user experience even more comfortable. Further improvements in battery performance would also be helpful for long days of travel and international activities.

I have also explored some of the additional features, such as AI Conversation, which has interesting potential, although I have not used it extensively yet.

His feedback reflects what matters most when translation technology becomes part of everyday life: reliable performance, comfort, and the ability to adapt to different communication environments.

Timekettle: Thank you, Leonidas, for sharing your experiences and the stories behind them.

Editor's Closing Note: From exploring new cities in China to connecting with people across Europe, Leonidas's journey shows how much becomes possible when language is no longer a barrier. Because sometimes, the most meaningful connections begin with something as simple as a conversation.
